Questions about Swiftgrove
The short answers. For step-by-step help, see the docs.
What is Swiftgrove?
Swiftgrove is a Git client with a graphical interface (a Git GUI) for Windows, made for developers who keep their projects in WSL. It shows your project's history, lets you commit the changes you choose, helps you resolve merge conflicts, and pulls and pushes.
Do I need WSL to use Swiftgrove?
No. Swiftgrove also works with projects on Windows. You can open both side by side in tabs.
Which versions of Windows are supported?
Windows 11, and Windows 10 version 1809 or later, 64-bit.
Do I need to install Git?
Yes, Swiftgrove uses the Git you already have. For WSL projects, that's Git inside your WSL distribution. For projects on Windows, install Git for Windows.
Does my code leave my computer?
Only to the places you push it to. Swiftgrove doesn't collect usage data. It only connects to the Git servers you work with, to activate a license, and without a license to ask GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket whether a repository is public (only its name, never its contents). The details are in the privacy policy.
Does it work with GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket?
Yes, and with other Git servers too. You can sign in with GitHub straight from Swiftgrove, or set up SSH keys.
Can I use my own diff or merge tool?
Yes. Choose Beyond Compare, WinMerge, Visual Studio Code, Meld, KDiff3 or another program in Settings, also for projects in WSL.
How do updates work?
The Microsoft Store installs new versions of Swiftgrove for you, like any other app from the Store.
How much does Swiftgrove cost?
Swiftgrove is free for public repositories. For private repositories you need a lifetime license: $29.99 once ($19.99 during the launch), for you on 2 devices. See the pricing page.
What counts as a public repository?
A repository that GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket report as public. Repositories without a remote, and repositories on other servers, count as private.
Do I pay for updates?
No. The license is for life: you pay once, and every future version of Swiftgrove is included. There's no subscription and nothing to renew. Swiftgrove only checks in with the license service every few days in the background, and keeps working offline for several weeks.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 14 days of buying, no questions asked. See refunds.
Can I move my license to a new PC?
Yes. A license works on 2 devices. Free one up in Swiftgrove (Help → License), or on the devices page if the old PC is gone.
